NICOSIA MALL NICOSIA
CYPRUS

Studwelders Composite Floor Decks exported over 73,500 square metres of MetFloor 60 steel decking to Cyprus, to construct the Nicosia Mall.
The €200M Nicosia Mall, which opened in November 2018, has 82,000 square metres of space and 150 stores, making it the largest shopping mall in Cyprus.

Having previously supplied almost 87,000m2 of steel decking to the Kings Avenue Mall in Paphos, SCFD was once again contracted to supply large quantities of MetFloor steel decking to another shopping mall development in Cyprus – the Nicosia Mall in the southwest of the Cypriot capital. SCFD exported 2000m2 of steel decking in June 2013, 55,000m2 between late July and early October 2013, and a further 16,500m2 over the Christmas period of that year. This is yet another large scale project in Cyprus that Studwelders CFD have been involved in, showing their strong position within the Cypriot metal decking market.

Construction of the mall was badly hit by the 2013 Eurozone crisis, which halted development until 2017. After financial assistance from the Bank of Cyprus, construction resumed so that the mall could open in November 2018. The shopping centre covers an 82,000m2 area and provide parking spaces for 1,700 vehicles. Spanning 2 floors, it contains 150 stores, an open-air plaza, a supermarket, a cinema multiplex and a food market containing numerous well-known restaurant chains. The mall’s design incorporates a number of eco-friendly features.

The new mall is expected to boost the Cypriot economy as well as improve the local area, and has already assisted the construction industry by creating, at its peak, 800 construction jobs – a record for a single project in Cyprus. The new mall will help to increase economic activity outside of the summer months of peak tourism to the island, and will create hundreds of new jobs to decrease the unemployment rate on the island.

During early 2014, Studwelders CFD recieved another export order to supply 31,000 square metres of MetFloor 60 steel decking towards the expansion of the nearby rival Mall of Cyprus. Another project halted by the Eurozone crisis, CMF manufactured the trapezoidal decking between March and July 2018. It was used for the expansion of the car park and the retail areas of the mall, to help it compete with its newer rival just a few miles to the west.

Studwelders CFD is pleased to be the metal decking supplier of choice for all sorts of Cypriot building projects, and hope to work on more projects in the near future.
